A Short History of Shores Camera Club

In January of 1993, the Daytona Beach Shores Arts and Entertainment Committee hosted a social at the Community Center for persons interested in forming a camera club in the South Peninsula area. The formation of the club stemmed mainly through Ben Horn’s efforts.

The following people volunteered to help get the club started and fill chairperson positions during the difficult start-up period: Ben Horn President, Alex Siodmak Vice President and Publicity, Sam Snow Treasurer, Kathy Giddings Membership Chairman, and Bill Gunter Newsletter Editor.

Fast forward to the present and we find that charter member Joan Robinson of Daytona Beach is still in the club. Over the years we have members from Daytona Beach Shores, Ponce Inlet, Wilbur-by the-Sea, Daytona Beach, Holly Hill, Port Orange, Ormond, Edgewater, Longwood, Orlando, Deland and DeBary. Also,we have out of state members that have spent the winter months with us for years.

Several of the club photographers are photographers for city events and activities. Some of our members support charitable organizations fundraisers by contributing their photography of those events.

The club offers several avenues for learning: workshops, photographic speakers, and safari's.
